BArch Year 3 Atelier Workshop 08.10.24

BArch Year 3 Atelier Workshop 08.10.24

To get the students back into drawing again after the summer break, we did some collaborative drawing as an atelier (studio group). For the warmup exercise we asked the students to draw figures of eight, dots and then join them together. This was followed by drawing simple shapes carefully.

For the second activity, we asked the students to ‘take a line for a walk’ drawing a continuous line. They then drew people in a crowd on the line using the simple shapes: different poses eg hooray!, look up there!, let’s have a hug! I’m very sad etc. The students began to animate the drawing and bring it to life.

Their final task was to form groups of 6/7 to draw a site section from memory. They first spent 5 minutes looking at photos/maps/google earth of the site they were allocated to draw. In groups, they then created a site section at approx. 1:100 scale from memory in groups. The students found this task challenging but it really made them think about the site topography etc.
